A Penny for your thoughts.....
How many times have you walked by the penny laying on the ground. Did you know. A penny costs 2.41 cents to make, costing the U.S. Mint $58,000,000 last year. In an interview two weeks ago, President Obama indicated that it was time to cease the circulation of the penny, rounding cash transactions to the closest nickel. This move is being fought by the zinc lobby; that metal makes up 97.5% of the penny while the rest is copper. New Zealand stopped using its penny in 1990, followed by Australia two years later. The Royal Canadian mint just ceased distribution of their penny on February 4th. There is a one cent Euro coin. You can buy one for U.S. 1.31 cents. A United Kingdom penny is worth 1.52 cents.
