Our very own, 28 year old Amos Dotson, quarterback, is MVP
of MAFFA, the Metro Atlanta Flag Football Association. For those of you who don’t know much about
flag football, it is becoming one of the most popular sports on the college
level. It consists of an 8 man team with
22 minute halves. Every year, just
before the Superbowl in January, the USFTL (like the NFL- national level), has
their playoffs from all over the county.
This year, 43 teams met in Kissimmee, Florida on Jan. 17-20 for those
playoffs. Amos plays in Atlanta for “The
Shockwaves”, who ended their year with a record 11-1. Going into the playoffs, the Shockwaves were
ranked #10 in the country in the double elimination tournament with a 5-0
record. Unlike NFL, in flag football
tourneys, you have to keep playing all day.
So, a team may play two or three games in one day. According to Amos, the best way to win the
championship is not to lose so you don’t have to play as many games. He says by the third day, your body is really
sore, because players use no pads or helmets.
In the last games, The Schockwaves were playing the Chicago Suspects. They won the first game, but lost the second,
which means they had to play the Suspects again for the third time that
day. They beat the Suspects the final game
to take the entire tournament!!!. Congratulations to senior student, Amos
Dotson.
